Class Project: Carve & Paint a “Nesting” Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

Cost: $450 + Material/Supply Fee $25 (Wood, eyes, etc.)
The nest and bird will be sculpted and painted in the class! Students are encouraged to bring in fabricated or real branches that the nest can be mounted on to. They can also bring a small base for the display. (branches and base should be on the smaller scale as the nest is only a couple inches in diameter).

Josh will do a series of demonstrations that will teach the students every aspect of carving and painting a realistic bird.  Josh is going to cover the intricacies of creating a soft feathered realistic look that has made him a much sought-after instructor.  Josh will have a study cast for this project that will be provided to use throughout the class.  A tool list for the class can be found at
