Marilyn has been involved in woodcarving since 1990, learning the craft from her grandparents (John & Marilyn Storms) and her parents (Andy & Joyce Anderson), while helping them at their shop, The Knot Hole Woodcarving Studio in Pleasant Hill, MO. She fell in love with woodburning around 2015 and has been teaching one-day workshops since 2022. She is a Cass County Fair Blue-Ribbon winner and has commissioned dozens of pieces including wildlife portraits, family pet portraits, signage, furniture, ornaments, and pieces for corporate events and displays.
Marilyn teaches beginners how to set up a burn surface and project piece, understanding the wood burner and how different levels of heat burn on different surfaces, and understanding the different types of tips and how they are used. Beginner students will also have the opportunity to first burn a practice board to help them become familiar with the wood burner, different tips, and techniques. Beginner to Intermediate students will be given helpful instructions on shading and texturing techniques. Finally, students will be given instructions on how to finish their piece to preserve it from time and fading. (Lessons will be provided by group demonstration and individual instruction.)
